It's not only how but also when that is important if one is following a
    weight reduction or fitness program.

On that there is general agreement. But as to precisely when,
everybody, including the experts, can't seem to find a common
    ground.

What is the best time to exercise?

According to research, the 5-6 pm slot is supposed to be the best
time of the day to hit the gym.

The reason for this is that body temperature and hormone and
endurance levels are at their peak in late afternoon, making for better
    calorie-burning.

Others swear by an early morning exercise regimen. They say
there's nothing like a good morning workout to get the body up and
running and the day off to a good start.

So what is the best time to exercise?

British scientists are the latest to join the debate. If you are working
out to lose weight, then you can't go wrong exercising after meals,
    they say.

The scientists picked twelve volunteers who were divided into two
groups. The participants were then given the same breakfast.

But one hour later, one group worked out for an hour on an exercise
bike while the other group sat quietly.

Both groups were then allowed to eat as much as they liked one
    hour later.

The first group who exercised naturally burned more calories than
those in the group that just sat passively.

When allowed to eat afterwards, the first group tended to eat more.
But they took in fewer calories overall when the amount of energy
burned during exercise was taken into consideration.

The scientists concluded that working out after meals boosts
hormones that suppress appetite, which helps promote weight loss.

The Surrey University and Imperial College work appears in the
    Journal of Endocrinology.

So what's the best time to exercise?

When to exercise is an individual thing. What may work out well for
some people may not necessarily hold true for others. The important
thing is to exercise and to do it on a regular basis.
